TheLivedBody
Film: Maria Andrews
TheLivedBody is an investigation of how the present state is a reflection of past experience(s); whether it comes from memory, and whether memory is the truth or a distorted/altered truth.TheLivedBody exists between past and future, exploring the effects of one’s dance history (retrospective) and their manifesto (prospective) to reveal the body’s constant influx of feeling, sensation and memory.
The project is a further development from the group piece, The Panel, presented in July at Chelsea Theatre. It employs the same stimuli as with The Panel: i.e., investigation of the relationships between the body, words and the feeling and sensation. TheLivedBody considers the individual dance biographies and memories, and delves deeper into those areas; operating on a more personal level. It has developed into an intimate dialogue between the dancers; bringing about the form, structure and content as a duet; drawing upon their texts, movements, each other; and tying together a distict narrative that has brought the piece a deeper perspective and distinct identity.
